Rich and delicious, Black Forest Cake! We’ll show you how to make a boxed cake mix even better by filling it cherries and covering in ganache frosting!
I love my bundt pan. It’s an easy way to make a cake beautiful without a ton of effort and it’s a great way to make filled cakes. Whenever I make a black forest cake I love to fill it with cherry filling and bake it right into the cake.
Once you’re done baking a bundt cake you can dust with powdered sugar, drizzle with glaze, pipe on some thick frosting, it’s so simple. For this chocolate cake we went with a ganache glaze, which everyone loves!
Black Forest Cake Ingredients
- 1 box chocolate (any variety) cake mix
- 3.4 oz box of chocolate instant pudding mix
- 1 cup plain greek yogurt
- 3/4 cup vegetable oil
- 4 eggs
- 3/4 can of cherry pie filling
- 1 chocolate bar (for shavings garnish)
- ganache topping 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips + 1/2 cup heavy cream
How to make Black Forest Cake
First, start off by preheating your oven to 350 degrees and prepare a bundt pan with nonstick spray. Then in a large bowl combine the cake mix, chocolate pudding mix, greek yogurt, oil and eggs, and mix until well combined.
Add half of the batter into the bundt pan. Using a spoon, push the sides up in the middle and outer edge to create a well in the middle.
Spoon the cherry pie filling into the well, using the spoon spread it all the way around, and make sure it’s filled but not so full it touches the edges of the pan.
Add in the remaining cake batter to cover the cherry pie filling and spread it across the top, sealing the sides of your cake.
How long do you bake Black Forest Cake?
Let the cake bake for 45-50 minutes. Allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes and then invert onto a cooling rack to completely cool.
Once cooled top with ganache, whipped cream, chocolate shavings, and don’t forget the cherries!
