Having a child with an allergy isn’t easy, but these kitchen gadgets have made our experience in the kitchen a bit more enjoyable. Finding everyday products that are ready to go was nearly impossible so with all of these we’re able to control the ingredients, nutrition, and of course we have fun doing it!
1. A TOTAL BLENDER
Hands down our Vitamix 5200s is our MOST used item in our FPIES kitchen. Daily smoothies, food trials, and we can even use it for our traditional kitchen by swapping out the jar. I highly recommend a powerful blender that can literally turn food into liquids in less than a minute. I’ve owned multiple blenders and you’ll be extremely happy with the Vitamix or even the Blendtec. We use both and have no complaints about either. With the Vitamix I use the Vitamix 32-Ounce Container for baby and the regular jar for us. You can even grind your own grains in the Vitamix with the Vitamix 32-Ounce Container with Dry Blade.
2. AN “ICE CREAM” MACHINE
With most kids having so many trigger foods you can’t really make ice cream, at least not right away. The above blenders can make an excellent ice cream, but they are also costly. For a very small fraction of the price you can use the Nostalgia Electrics Fro-Frutti Frozen Fruit Dessert Maker to turn FRUIT into ICE CREAM. See it in action here.
3. A SNOW CONE MACHINE
ABSOLUTELY NO SAFE FOODS? No fears! With the Nostalgia Electrics Retro Series Single Snow Cone Maker you can still create a fun treat for your FPIES child. Breastmilk, formula, or even a fruit puree/juice. Sure to be a crowd pleasure for the entire family!
3. A NICER DICER, BITE SIZE BITS FOR THE EXTREMELY PICKY EATER!
Food is scary and throwing huge chunks into a dish will end up having my daughter push her dish away. She loves little bite size pieces and I can get perfect pieces every time using my Nicer Dicer Multi Chopper Vegetable Cutter. It’s not just for vegetables either!
4. SO MANY INGREDIENTS, HOW MUCH? INVEST IN A SCALE
Escali Pana Volume Measuring Scale was my scale for baking and now it’s my scale for FPIES recipes too! If I don’t measure the ingredients I’ll never get the same outcome. With baking measuring is essential and EVEN more so with gluten free baking.
5. A GOOD JUICER
Omega makes incredible juicers and while I prefer to give Sweet Baby WHOLE juice made in the Vitamix or Blendtec sometimes it’s nice to just have a glass of juice. There’s no need to waste the pulp, just use it for baking or compost. This juicer is on our wishlist and hopefully she’ll have it by her 2nd birthday! For now we use a Nut-Milk Bag but we think this Omega Juicer would be SO much easier. Plus when using a cold-press (mastication) juicer you can store the juice for a little while whereas with a traditional juicer (centrifugal) it should be consumed immediately. In my opinion the sooner you consume the better, but with a cold press juicer like the Omega juicers you’ll get more nutrients and more juice.
